The General Manager and Management team of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) recently engaged in a roundtable discussion together with the Commissioner of Transportation, Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, alongside Private Boat Operators on the Lagos Inland waterways.
The primary focus of the discussions was to foster partnerships and ease of business for boat operators and commuters alike utilizing the Lagos Inland waterways.
During the discussion, the Commissioner actively listened to the concerns raised by the boat operators, taking note of their needs and demands.
The operators highlighted various challenges encountered on the waterways, such as wreckages, excessive taxation, insufficient jetties, the necessity for government subsidies, and the imperative for waterways cleanup to prevent hazards.
The Commissioner acknowledged the passion exhibited by the operators in their current operations, emphasizing that collaborative efforts will address their challenges effectively.
