A 20 feet container with registration number CSLU 2362640 falsely declared as furniture components and processed for export, was found to contain certain parts of wildlife prohibited for export.
The container was intercepted by the Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Customs Area Controller, Apapa Command, Mohammed Abba-Kura, made the disclosure in a press briefing on Tuesday.
Abba-Kura revealed that 162 sacks of pangolin scales weighing 8,800 kg; 57 sacks of mixed endangered species of various sizes such as Ivory/animal horns, lion bones amongst others were discovered when it was subjected to 100 physical examination.
The customs boss who revealed that the container was destined for Haiphong, Vietnam added that the total value of the export was valued at N952m with the total weight of the items put at 854,719 tonnes.
Abba-Kura said the agent used the logs to conceal the contents of the container. He added that some skeletons and elephant tusks were discovered in the consignment.
