The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has announced that it has signed a contract with Obat Oil to establish fuelling stations along the waterways in four locations in Lagos.
NIWA Lagos Area Manager, Sarat Braimah, told journalists that the contract had been signed even before the Lagos State Waterway Authority launched its own recently.
According to her, the move is to cushion the effect of getting fuel by boat operators along the waterways.
She said, “We have signed contracts with Obat Oil and we want to have them in four locations namely: Marina, Mile 2, Badagry and Ikorodu.”
Speaking further, she said that the agency would deploy harvesters on the waters in Lagos from November to clear all the marine litters within Lagos axis.
She said, “From next month, you will see water harvesters all over; from Ikoyi, Victoria Island and other places clearing marine litters.”

According to her, the Federal Executive Council is already deliberating on giving the CMS out to an investor who will transform it.
She maintained that it would attract tourists and serve as income for the government.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) had earlier launched its first-ever fuel station on the Lagos inland waterways.
Speaking at the event which held at the five cowries terminal in Lagos, the General Manager, LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, was said to have lauded the project, saying it was in the interest of ferry operators.
While disclosing that the filling station will be operated by Ibile Oil and Gas Company, Emmanuel disclosed that the outlet commenced operations on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020, with fuel being sold to operators at the official pump price.
