The Maritime Academy of Nigeria has received the first batch of multi-functional Classroom Simulators from India.
The Rector of the academy, Commodore Duja Effedua, disclosed that the simulators aimed at enhancing training capabilities of the maritime training institution is expected to offer modern practical hands-on experience for cadets and students of the school.
The modern maritime training devices and gadgets will, according to industry sources, increase the value of Nigerian issued certificates of competency and compliment the infrastructural improvements in the academy.
The simulator which is expected to accommodate up to 30 cadets and their instructors will able to take 20 different maritime related training programmes and will bridge the training gap for which many Nigerians were travelling to Ghana, Egypt and other African countries.
Effedua revealed that the academy, in addition to procuring the training devices from its meagre resources, has also invested in train the trainer manpower development for their operation and maintenance.
He said a total of 20 academic staff members have been earmarked for the training on operation and maintenance of the simulators.

He disclosed that 16 staff members of the academy had undergone and completed training in India on the installation and maintenance of the simulators while the second batch of 14 academic staff members will go for the training soon.
The simulators are expected to address sensitive training areas like liquid cargo handling, full mission ship handling and other areas of focus required in modern vessel operation in line with Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW10) as approved by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)
