ILCAD, spearheaded by the UIC https://uic.org draws railway industry representatives, road authorities, academics and more from around the world – aims to raise awareness about the dangers associated with the road/rail interfaces (level crossings).
The International Level Crossing Awareness Day is a joint commitment that began in 2009 with ELCAD (EU countries + Israel). Since then, UIC has been coordinating this worldwide event to raise public awareness about the dangers at level crossings.
The 10th edition of ILCAD was held on June 7, 2018, with over 40 countries in attendance and was officially launched through a press conference and a roundtable. The event was hosted by the Croatian railway infrastructure manager, HZ Infrastruktura, together with the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
Last year in Nigeria, the event was marked by educating motorists, pedestrians and other stakeholders on the need to observe safety measures when crossing the level crossings.
