A Mercedes-AMG One hypercar driven by Maro Engel has set a new Nurburgring record for road-legal production cars, completing the famous 12.8-mile (20.8 kilometers) Green Hell in a record time of 6:35.183s.
One’s time bested the previous record time of 6:43.3s for road-legal production cars set by Manthey Racing-tuned Porsche 911 GT2 RS last year by a remarkable eight seconds.
Engel said he didn’t expect to set the record-breaking time on the Eifel asphalt as the conditions throughout the day were “less than ideal.”
“I didn’t expect that we would be able to set such a lap time with these track conditions. In some crucial areas of the track, it hadn’t dried completely yet and was, therefore, tricky. That was a special challenge.”

The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar with Formula-1 technology set a new record not only for road-legal production vehicles but also in the super sports car category.
Mercedes-AMG said two Ones were brought to the Ring for record-breaking drives on October 28, 2022, adding that the record-breaking vehicle had everything that the Mercedes-AMG ONE offers as standard.
But the record lap in the hybrid super sports car with Formula 1 technology required not only driving skills but also an intelligent driving style from Maro Engel, who used special energy management for the lap of the 20.8 km Nordschleife.
The production 2023 Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar finally made its public debut at this year’s 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, as part of AMG’s 55th birthday celebrations. Only 275 units of the AMG One will be built, all of which are spoken for at a cost of $2.72 million each.
The E Performance branded road racer boasts a whopping 1,049 horsepower (782 kW / 1,063 PS) from its combination of the 1.6-litre V6 hybrid petrol engine and four electric motors.
It has six different drive mods, including Race Safe, Race, EV (all-electric driving), Race Plus (race track only), Strat 2 (race track only), and Individual.
Mercedes-AMG says the ONE will hit 62 mph from a stop in 2.9 seconds, 0-124mph in 7.0secs, 0-186mph in 15.6secs and reach 124 mph in 7.0 seconds, going on to a top speed of 219 mph.
