The Group Managing Director of Temple Group Limited, Prince Segun Obayendo, has emerged as the new President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIOTA). He was declared victorious after an election held virtually on Saturday.

Obayendo defeated Dr. Adegboyega Dosunmu, a former Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) with a total of 408 votes as against 142 votes. These are 10 things to know about Prince Obayendo.

# Obayendo is the pioneer of the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service, CVIS and the Drivers Testing Theory, DTT. He introduced these technology -driven services to the country in a bid to contribute to the Vehicle Inspection Services, VIS, effectiveness in determining the road worthiness of a vehicle and ascertaining the eligibility of the holder of a driver’s license.

# In 2012, the company was licensed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to operate Computerized Vehicle Testing Centres in the territory. This led to the birth of the first Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre in Nigeria called Abuja Computerized Vehicle Testing Service (ACVTS) on the 1st of September 2014 through a public private partnership, PPP model with the FCTA. In addition to the Abuja Computerised Vehicle Testing Service, CVIS is operational in other states in the country.

#Prince Segun Obayendo has campaigned for the safety of Nigerians on the roads at different international summits and programmes such as Nigerian-British Human Resources Management Summit (London) International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) Nigerian – German Financial Administration Summit (Berlin)  International Public Sector Accounting Standard (Istanbul Turkey) among many others.

# He is a Fellow of the prestigious Chartered Institute Transport Administration (CioTA); member, Institute of Directors( IoD), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM); Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM); as well as Special Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps and a Bureau Veritas Certified Vehicle Inspector.

# He is also the founder of the Segun Obayendo Foundation, an organization with a mandate to make Nigeria one of the most united and peaceful countries of the world by promoting the initiative of a common language to break the language barrier that has negatively impacted the country’s unity.

# In 2017, the Institute for Service Excellence and Good Service recognized him with the Service Excellence (Vehicle Safety and Regulation) award for the excellent approach he had deployed in creating awareness and acceptance of the CVIS in the country.

# In 2018, he was awarded the Alimosho Heroes Awards for siting two LACVIS centres, Oko-Oba and Ayobo in Alimosho, the largest local government in Lagos State.

# Also, in 2018, he was recognized for his promotion of safety on the roads by the Lagos State Safety Commission at the 2018 Lagos Vision Zero Conference.

# He also received the Best Road Transport Technology Provider (PPP) for Temple Group at the National Transport Technology Conference and Exhibition.

# The Best Road Transport Technology provider for the year at the National Transport Technology Conference and Exhibition, as well as award by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation for his contributions to transportation safety in the country.

Aside Obayendo, others elected include Umar Iya as the deputy President with 347 votes against 169 votes for Lami Tumaka Hadiza and 32 votes for Ogwara Emeka.For national secretary, Okoronkwo Philips won with 381 votes against Ogbuji Chinda Evans 161 votes, while Uwaegbute Chinwe won the post of National Publicity Secretary with 351 votes against Anyika Chizoba’199 votes.

Other positions are: Uki Mfom Felicia winning the post of National Financial Secretary with 378 against 159 votes for Captain Green Elei Igbogi while Jimba Adeshina Ganiyu won the post National Treasurer with 401 votes against Ijeaku Celestina’s 130 votes.

Bashir Adewale Abdullahi won the post of National Provost position of CIOTA with 382 votes against Ibiama Kenneth 153 votes.The auditor’s position was won by Muktar Aminu’s 407 against Falaye Stella’s 85 votes and Agbor Manya Emmanuel’s 43 votes.

In his first post-election speech, Obayendo said “I want to use this opportunity to appreciate everyone who stood by me in this journey. My campaign team, my professional colleagues, my co-contestants in my team (the broadest and most diverse) and everyone who has had to take time out of their busy schedule to ensure we didn’t lose faith.

“Yes, we kept the faith and here we are, rewarded with this victory and in the history of this institution, we have been given the highest votes ever to a presidential candidate. For me, it represents a great privilege to be trusted with the highest office of this institute. CIOTANS spoke with a clear voice that they are ready for the implementation of THE STATEMENT.

“The statement, the title of our manifesto, represents our compass to navigate the desired paths of relevance, increase and prosperity.

It is hinged on three cardinal features which include a Ten Year Strategic Development Plan for CIOTA, Recognition and Acceptance of CIOTA Certification and Promotion of Global Best Practices in the Transportation Sector“.
